Tractor Supply “Sweets for the Sweet” Bake Sale will be held on Saturday, February 11, 10AM-1PM. Rivers & Bluffs Volunteers Donate Food to PDC Food Pantry

During a recent meeting of Rivers & Bluffs Animal Shelter, volunteers brought food items which were donated to Couleecapp Prairie du Chien, Wi. Couleecap is located at 200 E. Blackhawk Street in Prairie du Chien, WI.

Breakfast with Santa and Wake Up Santa take place in the Community Room of Prairie du Chien City Hall during the first Saturday of December. Children are invited to bring pots, pans, wooden spoons and other noise makers to "wake up Santa". At the count of three, the children bang on their pots and pans and shout "Wake Up Santa" at the top of their lungs. The fun event begins!

Meet Rivers and Bluffs Animal Shelter volunteers at the McGregor Arts and Craft Fair on October 1-2, 8-9.

Show your continued support while visiting our display tent. We will have delicious, fresh cheese curds (white, orange, and mixed), Rural Route 1 Popcorn (prepopped in 5 or 6 different flavors),. In addition, our knowledgeable volunteers can tell you about all of our activities.

The McGregor Arts and Craft Fair is held in Triangle Park, McGregor. Purchase handmade arts & crafts including drawing & painting, wood productions, quilting, jewelry, glass, ceramics, pottery, and more.

While in McGregor stop in and say "hi" to the good folks at McGregor Mall. Delicious ice cream treats, working old-time soda fountain, print a custom designed full color photo on a t-shirt....all while you wait 5-10 minutes.Tell Deb that Rivers and Bluffs Said to say "hi".

The Rivers and Bluffs Animal Shelter is raising money to build and maintain a local animal shelter. They meet at 6 p.m. the third Thursday of every month at City Hall in Prairie du Chien.

The 4th Annual Rivers and Bluffs Prairie Pool Puppy Paddle will take place on Saturday, August 27.

Thank you for your interest in the Rivers and Bluffs Animal Shelter 4th Annual Prairie Pool Puppy Paddle. This event will be held on Saturday, August 27th at Wacouta Aquatic Park, located at 1401 E Wells St in Prairie du Chien, Wi (Map). Money raised through this event will be used to purchase land and build an animal shelter for the surrounding area.
Wacouta Aquatic Park has a 0 depth pool entrance. Dogs can wade into the water and will not have to jump in from the wall.

Rivers and Bluffs to Sponsor Food Stand and Bake Sale At Nelson True Value

Rivers and Bluffs Animal Shelter is at it again – another food stand to raise money to purchase land on which to build an animal shelter for the Prairie du Chien area.

Nelson True Value will be the venue for the May fund raiser on Friday and Saturday, May 6th and 7th. This is the 4th consecutive year that Rivers and Bluffs will be at True Value on the Friday before Mother’s Day. The organization will also be there on Saturday this year. The menu includes grilled brats and hot dogs as well as walking tacos and fresh baked goods and homemade pies.

Jami Quick, president of Rivers and Bluffs Animal Shelter, invites everyone to stop in for a delicious grilled brat or hot dog while shopping for their Mother’s Day flowers and spring gardening ideas. Jami added that Rivers and Bluffs Animal Shelter appreciates this wonderful opportunity to raise money at one of Nelson True Value’s busiest weekends. The organization is working especially hard this spring as they hope to purchase land on which to build an animal shelter by the end of this year. Bev Pozega, vice president of the group would like to thank the community for their continued support.

Pets, like humans, are at risk of suffering medical problems. The injury could be a broken bone or a serious illness, but the resulting vet bill can be staggering. Caught financially unprepared, some pet owners find themselves forced to choose between their pocketbooks and their pets.

What is pet insurance?

Pet insurance, like medical insurance for humans, can help reduce that risk of caring for a pet and lessen the frequency of "financial euthanasia," the decision to put a pet to sleep rather than incur a large debt attempting to heal.

Pet insurance is common in many European countries. However, it remains rare in the U.S. There are about 130 million pet cats and dogs in the United States, but only a handful of pet owners (fewer than 300,000) take advantage of these policies.

There are a few different pet insurance companies, each of which offers many types of policies and varying degrees of coverage.

Some policies pay for all types of veterinary care, including annual checkups and immunizations.
Others only cover accidents and illnesses.

Some have pre-set annual or incident limits and some have deductibles. Premiums vary depending on the plan and can run from $99 a year for a simple HMO type discount plan up to $500 for a select breed indemnity plan.

Each plan has its pros and cons, and each must be carefully examined (especially the fine print) so that you can select a plan that's best for your pet. A carefully chosen plan can give you peace of mind that your pet will be able to get the best medical care regardless of cost.

Who should consider pet insurance?

Pet owners should ask themselves, "Do I want ‘a’ pet, or do I want ‘this’ pet?" A bad candidate for pet insurance is a pet owner who wants "a dog" but put him to sleep instead of spending large amounts of money to save him if that dog gets sick or injured.

If you are the type of dog owner who would devote an unlimited amount of time and money into healing your dog, then you are a good candidate for pet insurance, because it will probably save you money in a bad situation. Unfortunately, many pet owners put a dollar value on their pets' lives. When the bills start to add up, many pet owners consider euthanasia at around $250. Pet insurance is still very rare.

What are my choices?

* VETERINARY PET INSURANCE

VPI is the oldest, largest and most well-known provider of pet insurance in the United States. It was founded in 1980. The company estimates that they have 200,000 policies currently oustanding.

VPI does not cover:

Hip and elbow dysplasia found mostly in large breed dogs;
Patellar luxation (slipping knee cap) found mostly in small breed dogs;
OCD (Osteochondrosis dessicans) usually presents itself as a bone chip in a joint and is found mostly in large breed dogs;
Liver shunt is found mostly in small breed dogs;
Wobbler's disease (neck instability) found mostly in Dobermans and other large breed dogs;

The Advantage Plus Plan’s premiums start at $15.92/month. Its Gold Plan policy starts at $9.08/month with a $40 per incident.

**** PET CARE

PetCare (Owned by Pethealth Inc.) has been in business for three years in Canada but only available in the United States since May 2001. Coverage is available in 43 states. The company currently holds about 30,000 policies outstanding in the United States and Canada.

PetCare doesn't cover maintenance like annual check-up, shots, heartworm pills etc.. But their plan provides comprehensive coverage for things that pet owners can't budget for like catastrophic illnesses and accidents.
PetCare does cover congenital and hereditary problems (as long as they take out the policy before the onset of symptoms). The insurance pays 25 percent of the cost of prescribed pet food for the first 6 months.

The company allows a set dollar amount for each illness category (per lifetime) but there are no annual limits. Pets are covered from 8 weeks of age, and there is no upper age limit. There are five different programs depending of your needs. There are also coverage differences depending on age.

* PET ASSURE Pet Assure covers all pets, animals of all ages and any health condition — regardless of pre- existing conditions. The plan is five years old and has no health-related exclusions and helps owners save on food, boarding, training and vet bills.

There is a 25% discount on vet bills and 10-30% discount on food and other. The only stipulation is that owners have to use a participating vet or a participating food, grooming, training supplier. There are no deductibles, benefit caps, or limits. No medical record check or approval process in necessary so there is no waiting period.

The plan has about 50,000 policy holders with a 87 percent renewal rate. Pet Assure cost $99 for one pet, or a family plan of $149 which covers up to four pets.

How do Insurance Policies Work?

Getting a Policy
All pet insurance policies for dogs and cats are indemnity insurance policies. This means that you pay the full amount for any covered service or procedure up front. The pet insurance company will then reimburse you based on a claim that you file, after applying your deductible and co-pay, until you reach your policy's annual or lifetime maximum. Most pet insurance companies will issue a new policy to pets aged 8 weeks up 10 years old. Senior pets can often be insured after undergoing a medical exam. Some pre-existing conditions may be excluded from your policy, depending on the policies of each pet insurance company.

Waiting period
A waiting period is the time between when you first apply for a pet insurance policy and your full coverage takes effect. Most pet insurance companies have a waiting period of 2 - 14 days for accidents and 14 - 30 days for illnesses. The waiting period prevents consumers from taking out a pet insurance policy immediately following an accident or illness. In general a waiting period only applies in the first year of your policy. Afterwards, that there is no waiting period.

Claims process
When you've received veterinarian services, you will pay the bill in full. You will then submit a claim form signed by your veterinarian to your pet insurance company. Once this form has been received and processed, the pet insurance company will issue a reimbursement for the covered amount.

What is a Therapy Dog?

A therapy dog is a dog trained to provide affection and comfort to people in hospitals, retirement homes, nursing homes, schools, people with learning difficulties, and stressful situations, such as disaster areas.

Therapy dogs come in all sizes and breeds. The most important characteristic of a therapy dog is its personality. A good therapy dog must be friendly, patient, confident, gentle, and at ease in all situations. Therapy dogs must enjoy human contact and be content to be petted and handled, sometimes clumsily.

A therapy dog's primary job is to allow unfamiliar people to make physical contact with it and to enjoy that contact. Children in particular enjoy hugging animals; adults usually enjoy simply petting the dog. Many dogs contribute to the visiting experience by performing small tricks for their audience or by playing carefully structured games.

Classification of Therapy Dogs

Therapy dogs are not service or assistance dogs. Service dogs directly assist humans and have a legal right to accompany their owners in most areas. In the United States, service dogs are legally protected at the federal level by the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.

Therapy Dogs, Jasmine and Sami

Therapy dogs do not provide direct assistance and are not mentioned in the Americans with Disabilities Act. Institutions may invite, limit, or prohibit access by therapy dogs. If allowed, many institutions have rigorous requirements for therapy dogs.

Many organizations provide testing and accreditation for therapy dogs. In the United States, some organizations require that a dog pass the equivalent of the American Kennel Club's Canine Good Citizen test and then add further requirements specific to the environments in which the dogs will be working.

Typical tests might ensure that a dog can handle sudden loud or strange noises; can walk on assorted unfamiliar surfaces comfortably; are not frightened by people with canes, wheelchairs, or unusual styles of walking or moving; get along well with children and with the elderly; and so on.

Therapy Dogs in Prairie du Chien

The first therapy dog team in Prairie du Chien is Nikki, an American Eskimo, and owner, Bev Pozega. Nikki and Bev visit local schools as well as the area nursing homes.Another Therapy Dog International team is Kathy Paske and cocker spaniel, Digger. They have been active in visiting Bluff Haven Nursing home every Tuesday. Maggie and her owner Paula, have begun to visit area nursing homes as well.

Nursing homes were one of the first settings to graciously open their doors to the concept of Pet Therapy, which was developed by Therapy Dogs International over 30 years ago. Today, it continues to be a heartwarming experience to visit nursing homes and share the Therapy Dogs with the elderly, their families, and all other residents who live there.

Twice a week, emerging readers from Bluff View second grade in Prairie du Chien, cuddle up with Therapy Dogs, Jasmine and Sami owned by Deb Cross. They read books to their furry friends in Mrs. Krachey's reading group. Nicki and Vegas' owned by Bev Pozegas, visit Mrs. Rohde's reading group once a week.
Bluff View Primary School continues to offer “Tail Waggin’ Tutors” because it was so well-received. Over 20 children participate in the program.

The furry tutors, who participate in the program, are certified by Therapy Dogs International. The dogs help the students relax. The students eagerly read to the furry tutors because they are non-judgmental.

Bev and Nikki have been visiting Wyalusing Academy located in Prairie du Chien.

The volunteers of Rivers and Bluffs Animal Shelter are always looking for dog owners who are willing to become trained and participate in Therapy Dog International.

The Lazy Human's Guide to Dog Tricks*

This past Monday, Lola and I attended the last night of our Fun and Games class. After six months of puppy kindergarten(s) and clicker-based obedience classes, I signed us up for this class because I was trying to figure out how I was going to ~~wear out~~ keep Lola entertained during the winter months. At nine months, Lola ~~is a ho~~ loves to play with other dogs and ~~wear their butts out~~ run around. A lot.

Clicker training is a wonderful thing. You reward dogs when they do the things you want them to do rather than punish them for the things you don’t. Punishment does not really teach dogs how they should behave. So whenever you are beginning to teach a new behavior, you use a clicker to mark the desired behavior and then you treat the dog. Once they learn the behavior, you don’t have to use the clicker.

You can “shape” behaviors by clicking and treating intermediate behaviors that get dogs closer to the ones you really want. For instance, to teach a dog to come, you might start by clicking and treating the moment a dog turns to come in your direction from 2-3 feet away on a leash and slowly work up greater distances and off leash. Once they catch on to the fact that a “click” means a treat, it helps dogs learn how to learn.

Don’t think I have not been tempted to take a clicker and some treats to faculty meetings. Look, Jack sat quietly and did not scowl every time Mary made a comment.

Wow! Harry did not make any misanthropic comments when students were mentioned.

Lola caught on pretty quickly; as soon as the clicker comes out, she does her little routine of movements to try to figure out what will get her a treat. She loves it. You can see her thinking.

Do you want me to sit? Wait, look, I am watching you. Maybe you want a down. How about if I walk to the left? The right? Yes!!! A click and a treat!!! Now what? Go to the right and…. Lift my paw? No. Ok. Oh! Oh! I looked down and I got a click and a treat. OK. Ok. Let me think. Look down, look down. Ok Walk to the right and do a down? Jackpot!!! A Click and lots of treats!!!

And so it goes. Lola is very smart and has picked things up very quickly.

That is… the things I have consistently taught her. But I am ashamed to say that the big gaping hole in Lola’s extensive and fancy education has been my ability to continue the training outside of class times. A few skills – like emergency recall (so that she will come to you when “come” fails and NO MATTER WHAT—is so important to teach well that I have been paralyzed by fear to even begin.

I am a bad human. But up until now I have been lucky that Lola will pretty much do anything in class as long as some chicken or sausage is part of the deal.

It was important to me that she ~~not embarrass me~~ do well after a few incidents in puppy class. You see, while the other puppies timidly walked around sniffing each other and maybe playing a mild mannered game of tag, Lola came to kindergarten balls to the wall.

OH MY GOD!!! DOGS!!! YAY!!!! (sniff, sniff, sniff) I SMELL BUTTS EVERYWHERE!! HEY YOU!!! WANNA SMELL MY BUTT? WANNA PLAY? CAN I SMELL YOUR BUTT? (sniff, sniff, sniff). TAG!!! YOU’RE IT!!! OH DROOL!!! LICK LICK LICK. HEY!!! HEY YOU!!! YOU EVER HEARD OF ULTIMATE FIGHTING!!! IT’S REALLY COOL!!!!! FIRST I GET ON TOP OF YOU AND THEN YOU GET ON TOP OF ME!!! AND THEN WE NIBBLE ON EACH OTHER!! WANNA SMELL MY BUTT AGAIN? (sniff, sniff, sniff) HEY DOES YOUR HUMAN HAVE TREATS? TREATS!! YAY!!! HEY!!! HEY HUMAN!!!!! LOOK HOW ADORABLE I AM. IS THAT CHEESE YOU GOT THERE?

And then of course there was the pooping incident. Now no one expects 8 week old puppies to be housebroken. But while all the other puppies were sitting quietly with their owners around a big circle, Lola got away from me, ran to the middle of the circle, squatted down and pooped. A lot. Not in a corner somewhere—like the other puppies--where no one could see her. Nooooooooo. Right in the middle of the room for all to witness. You could see all the other puppy parents thinking how grateful they were that Lola was not their dog.

Cold Weather and Pets*

Cold weather can be hard on pets, just like it can be hard on people. Sometimes owners forget that their pets are just as accustomed to the warm shelter of the indoors as they are. Some owners will leave their animals outside for extended periods of time, thinking that all animals are adapted to live outdoors. This can put their pets in danger of serious illness.

Rivers and Bluffs ask you to keep a few things in mind:

A Vet Pre-winter Tune-up

Take your animals for a winter check-up before winter kicks in. Your veterinarian can check to make sure they don’t have any medical problems that will make them more vulnerable to the cold. Your pet’s health will also affect how long she can stay out. Conditions like diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, and hormonal imbalances can compromise a pet’s ability to regulate her own body heat. Animals that are not generally in good health shouldn’t be exposed to winter weather for a long period of time. Very young and very old animals are vulnerable to the cold as well. Regardless of their health, though, no pets should stay outside for unlimited amounts of time in freezing cold weather. If you have any questions about how long your pet should be out this winter, ask your veterinarian.

Protect your pet from the cold.
Keep your pets inside as much as you can when the mercury drops. If you have to take them out, stay outside with them. When you’re cold enough to go inside, they probably are too. If you absolutely must leave them outside for a significant length of time, make sure they have a warm, solid shelter against the wind, thick bedding (hay is a great insulator that they can snuggle down in), and plenty of non-frozen water. Try leaving out a hot water bottle, wrapped in a towel so it won’t burn your pet’s skin.

Some dogs like it outside.

Some animals can remain outside safely longer in the winter than others. In some cases, it’s just common sense: long-haired breeds like Huskies will do better in cold weather than short-haired breeds like Dachshunds. Cats and small dogs that have to wade shoulder-deep in the snow will feel the cold sooner than larger animals.

This engine should not be purring

Cats will curl up against almost anything to stay warm--including car engines. Cats caught in moving engine parts can be seriously hurt or killed. Before you turn your engine on, check beneath the car or make a lot of noise by honking the horn or rapping on the hood.

Check your House for defective heating devices.
If you light a fire or plug in a space heater to keep your home toasty warm, remember that the heat will be as attractive to your pets as to you. As your dog or cat snuggles up to the warmth, keep an eye out to make sure that no tails or paws come in contact with flames, heating coils, or hot surfaces. Pets can either burn themselves or knock a heat source over and put the entire household in danger.

It’s a good idea to have your furnace checked for carbon monoxide leakage before you turn it on, both for your pets’ health and your own. Carbon monoxide is odorless and invisible, but it can cause problems ranging from headaches and fatigue to trouble breathing. Pets generally spend more time in the home than owners, particularly in the winter, so they are more vulnerable to carbon monoxide poisoning than the rest of the family.

Clean your pet's feet after a winter walk.

Pets that go outside can pick up rock salt, ice, and chemical ice melts in their foot pads. To keep your pet’s pads from getting chapped and raw, wipe her feet with a washcloth when she comes inside. If your canine friend will tolerate it there are special booties that can help protect their paws from the winter elements and any chemicals or salts that art put out. This will also keep her from licking the salt off her feet, which could cause an inflammation of her digestive tract.

Pets need water in the Winter.
Keep an eye on your pet’s water. Sometimes owners don’t realize that a water bowl has frozen and their pet can’t get anything to drink. Animals that don’t have access to clean, unfrozen water are more likely to drink out of puddles or gutters, which can be polluted with oil, antifreeze, household cleaners, and other chemicals.
Be particularly gentle with elderly and arthritic pets during the winter. The cold can leave their joints extremely stiff and tender, and they may become more awkward than usual. Stay directly below these pets when they are climbing stairs or jumping onto furniture; consider modifying their environment to make it easier for them to get around. Make sure they have a thick, soft bed in a warm room for the chilly nights. Also, watch stiff and arthritic pets if you walk them outside; a bad slip on the ice could be very painful and cause a significant injury.

A nice warm doggy sweater...

Go ahead and put that sweater on Princess, if she’ll put up with it. It will help a little, but you can’t depend on it entirely to keep her warm. Pets lose most of their body heat from the pads of their feet, their ears, and their respiratory tract. The best way to guard your animals against the cold is keeping a close eye on them to make sure they’re comfortable.

When you’re outside with your pets during the winter, you can watch them for signs of discomfort with the cold. If they whine, shiver, seem anxious, slow down or stop moving, or start to look for warm places to burrow, they’re saying they want to get back someplace warm.

Frostbite and Hypothermia affect pets.

You can also keep an eye out for two serious conditions caused by cold weather. The first and less common of the two is frostbite. Frostbite happens when an animal’s (or a person’s) body gets cold and pulls all the blood from the extremities to the center of the body to stay warm. The animal’s ears, paws, or tail can get cold enough that ice crystals can form in the tissue and damage it. The tricky thing about frostbite is that it’s not immediately obvious. The tissue doesn’t show signs of the damage to it for several days.
If you suspect your pet may have frostbite, bring her into a warm environment right away. You can soak her extremities in warm water for about 20 minutes to melt the ice crystals and restore circulation. It’s important that you don’t rub the frostbitten tissue, however--the ice crystals can do a lot of damage to the tissue. Once your pet is warm, wrap her up in some blankets and take her to the veterinarian. Your veterinarian can assess the damage and treat your pet for pain or infection if necessary.

Hypothermia, or a body temperature that is below normal, is a condition that occurs when an animal is not able to keep her body temperature from falling below normal. It happens when animals spend too much time in cold temperatures, or when animals with poor health or circulation are exposed to cold. In mild cases, animals will shiver and show signs of depression, lethargy, and weakness. As the condition progresses, an animal’s muscles will stiffen, her heart and breathing rates will slow down, and she will stop responding to stimuli.

If you notice these symptoms, you need to get your pet warm and take her to your veterinarian. You can wrap her in blankets, possibly with a hot water bottle or an electric blanket. As always, remember to wrap hot items in fabric to prevent against burning the skin. In severe cases, your veterinarian can monitor her heart rate and blood pressure and give warm fluids through an IV.

Our biggest wish... is to have someone donate buildable 5-10 acres of land close to Prairie du Chien that is zoned agricultural, commercial or industrial.
Our first goal is to raise money for land. Once we can purchase land, then we will start to fund raise for the actual building. We would hope to have enough money to run the shelter for a year before we actually take in animals. We know that it will be a lot of work.
Rivers and Bluffs Animal Shelter is very active in the Prairie du Chien Area, We have monthly fund raisers.

Prairie Proud Pampered Pooches

Thanks to the Rivers and Bluffs Animal Shelter over 55 dogs around the Prairie du Chien area are a little cleaner today. The dogs were pampered with an outdoor dog wash at a fund raiser held at Tractor Supply on Saturday, July 18. Prairie du Chien Girl Scout Troop 189 volunteered to be dog washers.The dog's owners as well as curious onlookers were provided with a food stand run by Rivers and Bluffs Animal Shelter volunteers. Sweatshirts, T-shirts, and other items were also offered for sale.The new mascot also made its debut at the event. Rivers and Bluffs Animal Shelter is hoping to find a name for the newest member. Contact rivers and bluffs through the web site at www.riversandbluffsanimalshelter.org with a name.In conjunction with the dog wash, Merle Norman Cosmetics of Prairie du Chien (Map) has offered a special for July – Pampering for Paws. Park east of the Villa Louis, and just north of the Sculpture Park. Please bring water for your dogs and poop bags. If you do not have a dog, you are welcome to join us. We walk for about an hour. Enjoy the sound of Wind chimes as we walk along St. Feriole Gardens.

This weekly walk will be beneficial to both dogs and people. Socialization is very important to dogs, and the exercise will be good for all, especially those looking to shed the extra winter pounds.

What is that symbol you see on all of Rivers and Bluffs Animal Shelter's flyers?
The symbol, below, is called a QR Code. It is similar to a bar code seen everywhere. A QR code is a special two dimensional code which can be read by an app on a smart phone. Almost all QR Code reading apps are free. Chances are, the smart phone you are using has a QR Code reader and you are not aware of it. If you use a blackberry the app is found in the 'Blackberry Messenger' folder. Open the folder and look for 'Scan a Barcode'. Open up the bar code scanner, point the camera of the Blackberry at the QR Code. When all is in focus, the Phone will beap. The QR Code has been read by your phone.
You should see the message on the screen. Sometimes, your settings will direct the image to another folder on the blackberry.

Rivers and Bluffs Animal Shelter is actively engaged in raising funds for an animal shelter serving the counties of Grant, Crawford, and Clayton counties in southwest Wisconsin and eastern Iowa.

We believe our activities help to build a stronger community through our service. The people involved with Rivers and Bluffs Animal Shelter take pride in knowing that we are helping to positively affect the life of our citizenry. Through our actions, we hope to show that we can make a profound difference in our community.

About Us
The dream began in July, 2007, at Fort Fun picnic shelter. Since that date Rivers and Bluffs Animal Shelter began actively raising funds for an animal shelter serving Grant, Crawford, and Clayton counties.

We realize that it may be years before we reach our goals. Our first goal is to raise money for land. Once we can purchase land, then we will start to fund raise for the actual building. We would hope to have enough money to run the shelter for a year before we actually take in animals.

We know that it will be a lot of work. We are committed and dedicated to seeing the dream become reality.

Monthly meetings are held on the 3rd Thursday of every month at the Prairie du Chien City Hall, 214 E. Blackhawk Avenue (map). Meetings begin at 6:00 p.m. Please enter the building using the west side door. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend.

There are many advantages to adopting a dog or cat. Adopting a pet can be a great way to reduce our every day stresses and anxieties. In addition, there are many other reasons why adopting a dog or cat can be important in your life.

For instance, pets can help us to relax and help us to focus on the good things in our lives. This can be very helpful when we are overwhelmed by the stresses and anxieties of our lives. Playing with our pets can help reduce our fears and anxieties in any situation.

Pets can get our minds off of our problems. A person could do an activity with their pet or other animals that will give them a fresh perspective on things. Spending time with animals will get your mind off of the problem and give you the energy to do other things. Most importantly, playing with animals will give you the self-confidence that you can cope and that you can get through a stressful day.

Spending time with a pet can reduce loneliness and can be a great source of companionship. A pet can help us to feel better. Also many people talk to their pets and this can help us to get their problems out in the open. Animals can be of good company to all of us and can prevent the fear of being alone during our troubles.

Taking care of dog or cat can be a great way to increase our happiness and self-confidence. There are many animals out there who could benefit from your time and talents. Doing something that will help your pet or other animals can give you a source of pride and accomplishment.

Pets are 100 percent faithful and will be by your side through the good and bad times. Everybody deals with anxieties, stresses and other life problems, and it is during those times when you need someone by your side to talk too. People in our lives come and go, but your pet will never leave you regardless how bad your problems may be.

There are also many different breeds of dogs and cats we can choose from which can accommodate our life styles. If you want a certain type of pet that will suite your life style, all you have to do is talk to a pet expert or a veterinarian. These people will work with you to determine what type of dog to get that will fit in with your household.

By adopting a pet, you will be saving a life; a life of an animal that could very well become your best friend. A pet will love you unconditionally during his or her lifetime. Don’t let a few obstacles prevent you from gaining a faithful companion in your life. Adopting a pet can be beneficial to your health and be one of the best things that you can do in your life.
